Do online petitions make a difference?

Friday, July 25th, 2008

South Kona Youth United!

You know those little online petitions I’m always trying to get you all to sign off on?  Whether for KAHEA or NRDC, I get a notification in my email box when there is an issue that requires conscious citizen awareness and action.  I hope you all are doing the simple task of a click here and a click there, because it really makes  a difference.  In the case of MoveOn.org’s campaign to get FOX Networks to stop smearing Obama on national t.v., the dividends of all those signatures paid off big time!  Hip-hop artist NAS even stood up to represent through www.colorofchange.org

Check out how this “single shot” rang ’round the world:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=3980&id=13330-8471865-K4_yAox&t=4

(isn’t Nas handsome?  I never realized… ;-)

And keep signing those online petitions when there is an issue you care about!

Thank you ~ Keep up the good work!

Plastic Bags – PowerPoint Presentation -> Education, Inspiration, Action

Watch this – only 1 minute – Reality Check on Using Plastic Bags - Power point presentation

Hi all

I am sending this and hoping you can all take the time to read and look at it.  It is one of the best and most important emails I have received lately and just had to send it to you.  Hopefully we can actually make the effort to stop using plastic bags.

Thanks

If you are looking for a lightweight, sturdy, reusable plastic grocery bag alternative, check out the Chico bag (aff).  They are awesome!  Scrunch up into their own little tiny sac the size of a cell phone.  Fits into your purse or clips onto your belt easily.  You wouldn’t believe how much these little bags can hold.  I am only recommending because I use them very happily.  Let me know if you have any other reusable bag brands you love.  Aloha!

Protect the Kapuna Islands – Sign the Petition

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Raising Awareness for The Hawaiian-Environmental Alliance

Aloha SKY,

My friend Heidi Byron forwarded me the letter below.  Similar to the grassroots internet work that helped to secure the protection of Punalu’u / Black Sand Beach, your involvement online can be of service for putting more beneficial protections and programs in place for our environmental heritage.  Thanks in advance for giving a damn and taking a few moments out of your day to give attention and support to this.

Thank you~ Zhenya

Mahalo for your dedication to the sacred wahi pana of Hawaii! Thank you for taking action and going to sign the NWHI hui’s petition calling for the strongest possible protections for the Northwest Hawaiian Islands–now called the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.

Today, we hope you will please forward the call to action below to all those in your life who share the powerful conviction to malama and protect this sacred and uniquely Hawaiian place. Ask them to take just one minute to add their name to the NWHI hui petition!

We must make it clear that the public wants only the best and strongest protections for the Northwest Hawaiian Islands.  What is at stake is a public trust resource and the last pristine coral reef of its kind on the planet.

These are the Kupuna Islands–the path of souls into the afterlife.

EVERY NAME COUNTS! We only have till July 8th to collect broad public support for stronger protections for the NWHI in the Draft Monument Management Plan.

WHAT YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW:

1. Sign KAHEA’s Petition to Fully Implement Protections for Papahanaumokuakea (and read the NWHI hui’s talking points)

2. Click here to submit your own comments,

3. Send this important call to action on to all your friends and family, either by forwarding this email or by clicking here,

4. Learn more about the grassroots effort to protect the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands by clicking here.

NOW is the time for ALL to participate in the plan that will regulate all human activities in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands for the next 15 years! Two years of closed-door meetings by government agencies has resulted in a Draft Monument Management Plan (DMMP) for the conservation of the NWHI that actually expands the human footprint in this fragile and unique 1,200-square mile marine reserve.

Without public outcry, approval of this plan will mean:
-Construction of a “small municipality” on Midway, new cruise ships, more extractive research, and opening the NWHI to bioprospecting.

-
No opportunity for meaningful Native Hawaiian input on management decisions or support of cultural research, education and community outreach.
-The NWHI’s eight-year-old citizen’s advisory council will be disbanded, leaving management oversight entirely to government agencies.

-C
ontinued military contamination and new Navy missile interceptions, chemical warfare simulations and sonar activities within the NWHI without any mitigations.

Is this an appropriate vision for this sacred, fragile marine area? Such activities must not be allowed in this unique pu’uhonua. The NWHI hui has been reviewing the management plan in detail and we join with the former and current Reserve Advisory Council members, cultural practitioners, scientists, resource experts, and long-time advocates for our Kupuna Islands in their call for major changes in this Monument “development” plan.

It will take all of our voices to uphold the public’s vision that there be no further human footprint on this unique wilderness. Please forward this alert!

Mahalo for your continued support and participation in the effort to ensure the strongest possible protections for the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and all of Hawai’i’s public trust resources!

Being non-political can be hard…

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

especially when I am soooo excited that mixed heritage (partially African-American) person of color OBAMA was nominated as the democratic candidate. It is just really inspiring and uplifting. I’m sorry, you can’t deny, and if you do then…it’s not just a river in Egypt if you knowwhutamean.

Here’s Obama’s quote:

“If we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth. “

YES!!! I can…Maybe this has something to do with Jah working through a human to bring some change…Can I have some hope please? Jah is and ever shall be the true ruler of the earth, and he will have his day to end all suffering and “wipe every tear from every eye”. For now though I refuse to sit on my hands and let the zombie alien possessed freaks do shit to us and the earth any longer. I mean, did anyone notice that McCain has “Cain” in his name?

A Breath of Fresh Air…any Pele theories?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

It’s a relief that the winds have come and cleared much of the Vog away.  Residents of the Big Island were beginning to worry if they would ever see the sun again.  Blue skies…oh how beautiful they are to see!  Is anybody else wondering what’s going on with Pele?  I’d be interested if anyone out there has any information on Pele prophecy a.k.a “Hawaiian mysticism and lore”.  One theory I’ve heard is that Pele was smoking a fatty.  It’s a no wonder – I honestly believe most people should be partaking of some herbal medication in order to better transmute the negative energy generated by current world events happening…it ain’t no joke, folk!

Current events that need your loving attention and care:

I’m sure many of you have heard about the Earthquake in China – they believe over 18,000 people were buried…there still may be people alive in the rubble and that seems like an awful way to die.

Burma / Myanamar - this humananitarian crisis (I hate to even give it a glossy label because it is really an atrocious, treacherous situation that really squeezes my heart hard) is almost too horrible to think about.  A lot of love and light pouring out from my superConscious-ChristLike self as my heart goes out to those suffering – babies, children, mommies, the old, the sick and the ones that have to live with these memories.  Bless them Father-Mother God, that their tears will forever be wiped from their eyes at the great Return of Heavenly rule.

Fellow SKY – I beg of you, do not deny, look the beast straight in his eye and laugh at him.  Tell him - I am a witness of the things that are coming to pass, and I know that the Divine Will is being done.  You will not win!

Send me back your theories on Pele’s smoke stack.  What’s the lady up to?

To Put Faith in Politics or to Not Put Faith In Politics?

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Have you seen this video yet?

Below is a link to a powerful MoveOn YouTube Video created by Jesse Dylan (Bob’s son) and Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am.  The video is an inspiration to stand up for our rights, say “Yes, we can” and Help Obama win the office.

color:black;”>http://www.moveon.org/r?r=3376&id=12035-5662833-ZBOLsF&t=1026

I personally feel conflicted about whether or not to be involved in politics at all because according to the Bible the earth has so many problems that we humans are not powerful enough to make any lasting change. God through Jesus Christ is the ultimate ruler of the earth, and he will return to serve final justice on Judgment Day and the ‘meek shall inherit the earth’. He will ‘put to ruin those ruining the earth’. I know this to be true – I have felt the truth of this prediction since I remember being conscious.

However, it was my mother who taught me that God is not separate from me or heartfelt human being – that God is a part of us, inside of us. There is the belief that God is actually NOT inside of us – just his ’spark of life’ or ‘breath of life’ is. But let’s say God is actually a part of who we are as humans – that we actually have the ability to channel divine energy for the healing of the earth. Let’s just theorize for a moment that part of the momentum toward Judgment Day is every man, woman and child with consciousness choosing to be a servant to Jah by allowing grace to fill us, flow through us in taking progressive steps toward healing the earth. Maybe there is some truth to seeing it this way. I don’t know for sure. Let me know what you think – I’m interested.
